Carly discussing the outcome of this election with a friend
Carly’s Friend: How do you feel about the outcome of this election?
Carly: I will not allow this election to defeat me. The outcome of this election inspired me that much more to stand up for what is right. My beliefs will not be silenced. I refuse to die never seeing a woman president. I refuse to die never seeing an openly gay president. I refuse to die never seeing a president with religious beliefs besides Christianity. I refuse to die never seeing every walk of life getting equal opportunities as the white privileged. College should not be a privilege, it should be a right for all students who EARN it. Bernie Sanders forever changed history. He proved to millennials all over our country that this is OUR future. He inspired grown adults to revolt for what they believe in even with the judgement of their peers. He created the Political Revolution. He showed America (whether you supported him or not) that sometimes the underdog is the most influential person. For me, Bernie Sanders changed my life forever. Because of Bernie Sanders, I will be getting a political science degree and going into politics. Before Bernie, I was interested in politics but did not have the courage to speak up because of the fear of not being heard. Well, I will be heard. If I have to scream everyday until I am 35 years old, I will do it so I am heard. This is not the end for Mr.Sanders. OUR political revolution is just beginning. Liberalism will thrive but, go ahead and doubt it for now. Soon, you will see it first hand. Remember, we as a country believe in "liberty and justice for all". Through this journey, I have learned that being rebellious is not a bad thing. In fact, it's one of the best ways to ensure change.
Carly’s Friend: I know you could rant all day about how much you love Bernie sanders but, I have to go home. My mexican neighbor is crying saying she is scared she is going to get deported.
Art Piece Description: The themes for my monologue are greed and abuse of power. My character is learning how to cope with these issues. In my piece, it shows that hope is way bigger than fear and having passion in your eyes goes a long way. That is why Bernie has hearts in his eyes. Passion and faith are the two solutions to my characters problems. In my art piece, it says coexist because my characters ultimate goal is for all people to coexist. In order to show hope is way bigger than fear, I made a big Bernie Sanders flag and a tiny Trump Tower.
After this project, I know that a monologue is a chunk of writing to a person or object that is only said by one person. The person can't be talking to themselves. I used the themes of fear and dealing with abuse of power in my two monologues. These were both themes in Macbeth. I was extremely productive at the beginning of the project and then I finished everything way to early. Knowing I had way more time to spare, I created a second monologue which I ended up liking ever more. For my finished product, I turned in both monolouges. I think I was more on task for the beginning of the project because I felt like I had a big work load. Once I ran out of things to do, obviously I fell off task.
